Swedish Supreme Court judge convicted of shoplifting meatballs

I love Swedish meatballs as much as the next guy, but I wouldn't go as far as shoplifting them.

Justice Ann-Christine Lindeblad of Sweden's supreme court may sit on the highest court in the land, but she's not above some petty theft.

At least, that's what the judge in her case decided.

Justice Lindeblad was fined 50,000 kroner (about $5,200) for stealing the equivalent of $170 worth of groceries over the course of two separate grocery runs in December. She did not deny the facts of the case but denied that it was intentional.

I would have accepted the excuse of unintentional shoplifting as a lapse in memory (she is 67 after all) but the same thing happening twice in the span of one week is just unacceptable.

It eerily reminds me of the comedy sketch the BBC did a few years ago about Dame Judi Dench stealing. ๐Ÿ˜‚

In addition to the meatballs (the Swedes do love their meatballs), she also stole a Christmas ham, cheese, sausage, and other delicious holiday treats.

According to Irish Legal News,

When confronted by supermarket staff, witnesses said the 67-year-old judge told them: "You do not know who you are dealing with. I am a judge in the Supreme Court."

She sounds like a real gem.

The justice resigned in February after reports over the investigation came out. A pretty pitiful end to her very distinguished career serving 20 years on the Supreme Court!
