Forgot your password? Many of us have done it, but few know the pain of doing it to the tune of some $260 million dollars.

Yes, that's $260 MILLION dollars.

Stefan Thomas knows that pain.

10 years ago, he began investing in bitcoin, and created a digital wallet. Wanting to take no chances, he hid the keys to his digital wallet inside his IronKey hard drive and created a super strong password.

"I tried to pick a very secure one because I was very concerned about losing those coins."

It was like locking a safe within a safe.

The problem is he has since lost the password to that hard drive. And that's a big deal.

Can't remember your password to your email account or bank account? No big deal, really. Just request a password reset link, answer a security question or two, and maybe solve a captcha, and boom, you're in.

Can't remember the password to your IronKey hard drive? You are literally cooked, ruined, digitally cancelled. No hints. No security questions.

Just 10 tries to get it right or you're locked out forever. FOREVER!

"It's not like I barely don't remember it ... It's there's no chance of remembering something that complicated from 10 years ago."

Thomas has told NBC's Today,

... he has now used 8 of his 10 tries!

He calls the whole experience a painful memory. It's painful just writing about it!

Maybe we should rethink the wisdom of just using Password123456.
