Old Navy becomes the latest of many retailers to close up shop and flee downtown San Francisco

At this point, retailers are just fleeing San Francisco in chaotic droves. They can't get out fast enough. Just a mad dash to exit that hellishly unlivable city.

The newest exit comes courtesy of one of San Francisco's proudest native sons, Old Navy:

An Old Navy store in downtown San Francisco will close this summer, adding to the number of retailers in the city that have announced their departures.

A spokesperson for Gap Inc., which is headquartered in San Francisco, and owns a number of retailers, including Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta, said the Market Street location will close its doors July 1 once its lease expires.

The company says it is still "committed to the city," which sounds a bit like that old classic high school breakup line, "We can still be friends."

I think Gap is more committed to making money, and that's something you simply cannot do in a city running rampant with crime, open-air drug use, a dangerously spiraling homeless problem, and a local government that ... doesn't really care about any of it.

Other retailers that have recently shuttered stores in SF or are slated to do so soon include Nordstrom, Whole Foods, Saks, and Anthropologie. 👌
