Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo was spotted sitting at a wine and paint bar just days after telling the plebeians they need to "stay home except for essential activities."
I guess sipping wine in a restaurant – which Raimondo has severely hampered with new 'Rona restrictions, in addition to bars, gyms, and other businesses Her Majesty considers "non-essential" – is considered and important and necessary activity by Raimondo.
Like so many of her leftist comrades in recent weeks, Raimondo wants you to know that you, as just a little person, need to follow her glorious and wonderful mandates. What do her citizens think this is, America??
Erica Oliveras – the woman who took the photo at Barnaby's Public House in Providence – defended Raimondo, saying she wore her mask whenever she wasn't eating or drinking.
While that's nice and all, it misses the point. Leaders like Raimondo are the first to say "We're in this together" before wining and dining. Their finances haven't been impacted. Their families aren't at the brink of ruin and foreclosure. They aren't staring down the black hole of addiction and depression and isolation. Their work and purpose hasn't "paused."
So kudos to Queen Raimondo for following her mask mandates more closely than King Newsom out in California.
But when you tell people to "stay home except for essential activities" and shut down their livelihoods, and then go to a wine and paint event to enjoy a nice evening on the town, something is DEEPLY wrong.
Local resident Susan Goodman said it best.
"Shame on you Gina. She shouldn't even be at an event like that. You can drink wine at home. I'm an experienced wine drinker Gina, do it at home."
