Take it to go! Speaker Pelosi's sit-down dinner for newly elected reps get ratioed and scrapped in favor of take-out boxes … really
· Nov 14, 2020 · NottheBee.com

The room was set and prepped for a grand sit-down dinner in the Capitol in celebration of the newly elected democrat freshman representatives, until, that is, a viral tweet boxed up the whole affair, quite literally.

Really?

Tweets from both sides of the aisle came fast and furious, as the grand hypocrisy of it all could not be lost on even the most diehard democrats.

"Please cancel these in-person dinners … to keep everyone safe … And, to show public health leadership," tweeted Chelsea Clinton

Even some of the loudest voices from the liberal left, like Huffington Post and VOX writers, weighed in ...

"Can a dumb decision be reversed by Twitter dunks alone? We're about to find out. … I mean look at that quote tweet ratio … Pelosi really giving crazy uncles a layup with this one." — Huffington Post reporter Ryan Reilly

"This should be canceled and frankly I'm shocked anybody thought having an indoor social meal right now was a good idea to begin with." — Vox journalist Aaron Rupar

After the ratio, they buckled.

"Our office strictly follows the guidance of the Office of Attending Physician, including for this dinner. To be a further model for the nation, this event has been modified to allow Members-elect to pick up their meals to go in a socially-distanced manner." - Drew Hammier, Speaker Pelosi's Deputy Chief of Staff

Now, it's true that Republicans may well be planning their own dinner reception for members-elect. But before you lump them in together with Pelosi's tone deaf dinner debacle, please remember that Republicans are NOT the ones demanding that we lay our holiday celebrations down at the alter of Covid 19 this Thanksgiving and Christmas.

To the gods and goddesses of sanctimony, will you be taking that hypocrisy to go?
