This good Samaritan tried to stop a carjacking and ended up dying as a result

Bro, this is one of the wildest videos the internet will ever see. North Carolina man Jonathan Lecompte was on the job doing road work in the city of Lumberton back on March 18, when he noticed a carjacking taking place right in front of him in broad daylight.

So what did he do? Naturally, he engaged with the carjacker and tried to put an end to the theft. And while he did succeed in stopping the initial carjacking, the car thief walked right around Lecompte's work truck and hopped in, for some reason settling on stealing the work truck from the guy who threw a wrench into his carjacking attempt.

The rest of the action is best watched on video, but I'll warn you, it's not for the faint of heart — Lecompte was armed with a pistol and the carjacker ended up armed with a big ol' work truck.

[Warning: Graphic]

Just awful.

I'm guessing one of those shots made contact with the carjacker, Ricky Driggers, but unfortunately that wasn't enough to stop him from committing a murder right there in broad daylight on the streets of Lumberton.

Sadly, Lecompte was pronounced dead at a local hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained.

Police pursued the suspect until he crashed the vehicle on Selma Road near NC 41, the outlet reported …

He has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted common law robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle and felony fleeing to elude. He was being held at the Robeson County Jail without bail.

Death penalty. Nothing less.
