Biden's DHS hits pause on program that flew in hundreds of thousands of refugees because, you guessed it, it was riddled with fraud

Whoa whoa whoa!

Do you mean to tell me the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants - I'm sorry - "refugees" who were given free plane tickets into the US weren't all on the up and up?

They're temporarily halting this program that we've covered a couple of times before ...

But apparently there were just a few rotten apples in the bunch, and the program has been riddled with fraud.

Never saw that coming!

Migrants had to download an app and then submit an application to the government who then "vetted" their claim before buying them a free ticket to the interior of the country.

How could this have failed?

The Biden administration has put a controversial program that allows tens of thousands of migrants from four nations to fly or travel directly into the U.S. on hold, after a report circulated internally showing significant amounts of fraud in the program.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed to Fox News Digital that "out of an abundance of caution," it has temporarily paused the issuing of advance travel authorizations for the program β€” which allows up to 30,000 nationals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela (CHNV) to travel into the U.S. each month and enter legally under the administration's use of parole if they meet certain conditions.

The only real shock here is that the Biden regime allowed a report on fraud to force them to quit importing "newcomers" into the country on the taxpayer's dime.

I'm pretty sure everyone with two brain cells to rub together could have imagined this system being abused.

More from Bill Melugin:

The program has been used by the Biden admin to bring more than 500,000 Venezuelans, Cubans, Haitians, & Nicaraguans into the U.S. via direct flights. The reports found significant fraud in sponsor applications, including:

'100,948 forms were filled out by 3,218 serial sponsors -- those whose number appears on 20 or more forms. It also found that 24 of the 1,000 most used numbers belonged to a dead person. Meanwhile, 100 physical addresses were used between 124 and 739 times on over 19,000 forms. Those addresses included storage units. One sponsor phone number was submitted on over 2,000 forms, and there were 2,839 forms with non-existent sponsor zip codes.'

Gee, I wonder where all those migrant benefits are going?

So you had bad actors, clearly, in the United States filling out thousands of these forms using the same address, some dead guys' names, and the same phone number over and over and over again.

Thousands of abuses. Multiple times over.

Unreal.

DHS stressed to Fox News Digital that CHNV beneficiaries are 'thoroughly screened and vetted prior to their arrival to the United States.'

'The multi-layered screening and vetting for advanced travel authorizations is separate from the screening of U.S.-based supporters,' the spokesperson said. 'DHS has not identified issues of concern relating to the screening and vetting of beneficiaries.'

Translation: "Yes, there are lots of fraudsters inside our borders falsely sponsoring illegal immigrants as 'refugees.' BUT we don't think any of the people coming in through fraud are themselves dangerous."

This is a big giant mess and, of course, the "Border Czar" will never have to answer a single question about it.
