Two young teens stole a Georgia deputy's gun and tried to shoot him with it, leading to a massive manhunt

When I was a teenager the worst I did was maybe light a fire in a trashcan or two. Maybe spray paint something on an abandoned building.

I was not doing this:

Two teenagers who escaped custody in Jenkins County are back in custody, according to the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

It happened on Thursday afternoon. According to BCSO, the inmates were able to obtain Jenkins County Sheriff's Office Deputy Perry's gun and used it to knock him unconscious. They also fired three shots in his direction, but he was not struck.

Now, let's stop here for a minute. When you hear "two teenagers obtained a deputy's gun, knocked him out cold, then apparently committed attempted murder," you might think to yourself: "Okay, these are old teenagers though, 18 or 19. Right?"

Wrong:

The armed teenagers, ages 14 and 15, then made their escape.

Fourteen and fifteen.

Yes, they were just a couple of young boys:

I don't know what kind of life these young men have had up to this point, but I can bet it's not been a good one โ€” not if they're committing armed assault and attempted first degree as part of a jailbreak.

The young men reportedly "escaped while being transported from court" after they had allegedly "complained repeatedly about being hot in the back of the vehicle."

The deputy eventually "opened the partition between the front seat and the rear compartment," and that's when the pair struck:

And at some point, one of them goes into the cab of the truck and started wrestling with him and was able to get his gun and [pistol whip him] and they stopped and got out and they fought a little bit outside ... It's my understanding that they fired [a round] and then ran off into the woods.

Local police rapidly assembled to catch the young perps:

Deputies with Burke County rushed to Highway 56 and Knight Road, just south of the Richmond County line, around 1:30 p.m. They advised citizens in the area to lock their doors and report any suspicious individuals to 911 immediately.

Did the cops respond appropriately? You'd better believe it:

That's a lot of firepower. It's understandable. In the end, it was good old-fashioned police dogs that sealed the deal:

"Bloodhounds from the Department of Juvenile Justice or their department of corrections were able to track into the woods we found a T-shirt belonging to one of the suspects that had some blood on it." ...

The dogs continued to track them to the dead end of Ponderosa Road, where the teens were hiding in a storage container - still in their shackles.

Here's where the young escapees were found:

The sheriff's department put it succinctly:

When the dogs got on them, they surrendered.

The deputy, meanwhile, is "expected to make a full recovery" from his injuries.
