Denver is one of the most reliably Democratic cities in the country, so quite frankly we shouldn't really be all that surprised by this:

The migrant crisis in Denver has plunged the city's main public hospital deep into the red after patients received $136 million in treatment they couldn't pay for. ...

Denver Health CEO Donna Lynne said that 8,000 migrants who came to the city from Central America made around 20,000 visits to the health system. ...

Dr. Taylor McCormick, associate director of Pediatrics Emergency Medicine at Denver Health, The Denver Gazette: 'Overall, these patients don't have medical insurance. Denver Health is eating the cost for many of these visits.'

We shouldn't knock the hospital. In many cases they're required by law to provide services, and of course in most cases you can't really turn someone away from medical care in good conscience. Props to the doctors for doing the hard work.

The problem, of course, is left-wing Democratic leadership that is allowing an unsustainable flood of immigration into the country with no plan to manage it.

Helping out desperate illegal immigrants with medical care when they have nowhere else to turn is, by-and-large, a noble thing. Letting illegal immigrants flood major cities, bankrupting hospitals and making things worse for everyone (including the immigrants themselves!) is not noble.

The full scale of the effect of the immigrant crisis on Denver Health is not known, but it's clear it's wrecking the hospital:

Lynne said: 'What I think is not being said is that Denver Health is at a critical, critical point, and that we need to take this up in 2024.

'Because our costs exceed our revenues, we are turning down patients every day, particularly in the area of mental health and substance abuse.

'While I have tremendous compassion for what's going on, it's heartbreaking, it's going to break Denver Health.'

Remember, those in power could close the border at any moment, which means they believe collapsing our hospital systems is worth whatever they aim to gain from this.
