Virginia school board votes to restore confederate names to schools that were hastily changed during the 2020 BLM riots

It's never too late to do the next right thing, I guess.

That's what the Shenandoah County School Board in Virginia decided this week.

During the riots by BLM in 2020 and the subsequent tsunami of virtue signaling and "no, please don't call us racist" reactions, Shenandoah capitulated to demands from anti-American lefties and changed the names of schools that were named after Confederate generals.

For the first time in United States history, a school district that changed the name of schools that honored Confederate generals, voted to restore the Confederate names years later.

The Shenandoah County School Board held a public hearing on May 9 at Peter Muhlenberg Middle School to discuss restoring the names of Mountain View High School and Honey Run Elementary School to Stonewall Jackson High School and Ashby Lee Elementary School.

Yeah, the school board decided that the 2020 school board, most of whom have been voted out, acted too hastily, took shortcuts, and didn't listen to public opinion before caving to the leftist mob. So they're undoing the move.

'This was not an innocent mistake by some inexperienced school board,' District 2 School Board member Gloria Carlineo said. 'No, this was a carefully choreographed advance of a school board alluding to ignore the people they represented.'

Now, agree or disagree, it takes bravery in 2024 to rename a school for a Confederate general. Especially when everyone on The Left and most folks on The Right think that it's a bad move.

In the end, only 1 school board member voted against the renaming.

Here's his wishy-washy reasoning:

Kyle Gutshall, District 4 member, was the only 'No' vote for the restoration of the names. He said there are no clear answers for the restoration.

'We've talked about the right way, the wrong way to do it,' Gutshall said. 'The right thing to do, the wrong thing to do. Things like this really come down to perspective and how you view things.'

It's important to note as well that the schools are not going to pay for the work to change the names back. That has to be done through private donations.
