Last Friday, Mount Juliet (TN) Police responded to a report of a car being stolen at W. A. Wright Elementary School .... uhh, along with a potential kidnapping.
According to WSMV, a mother had gone inside the school to drop off some paperwork, and when she came back out, her car was gone, along with her 10-year-old son who had been in the car waiting for her.
Police said surveillance video showed no one entering the vehicle before it drove away.
A witness told police, they saw a vehicle backing out recklessly and nearly hitting another car, jumping a curb, and speeding toward Lebanon Road.
All signs pointed to the child being the driver, not a kidnapping carjacker.
Sure enough they found the kid at home with his dad: the car parked nicely in the garage.
The boy said he and his mom had gotten into a fight, so he took the car home and left her behind.
Police decided not to press charges against the 10-year-old.
The Wilson County Sheriff's Office said after consulting with Youth Services, they decided against filing charges against the child because they are too young to be held criminally responsible.
However, while investigating the missing car, police also found that the boy's father had outstanding warrants for theft and wire fraud in Nashville, and the man was taken into custody.
Kid led the cops right to him!
