Mad respect for this Virginia man literally keeping an artisanal industry afloat:
A Northern Neck man is selling this one-bedroom, one-bathroom, 45-foot-long pirate ship houseboat for just $49,000 โ basically the median home sale price in 1977.
"Surrender the Booty," as she's called now, is docked in the Potomac River, but owner "Captain Dan" Corder tells Axios she sails โ and an experienced pirate helmsman could navigate her through the Bay and into the James with no problem.
Just look at the fruits of this master craftsman's labor:
This isn't just a one-off, by the way; this man is truly dedicated to this craft:
This particular boat for sale is the 33rd Corder has fixed up. Disney even bought one of his boats.
Corder buys old boats he says that are "left for dead," and fashions them into pirate ships using materials he finds around town. He adds the skeletons, of course, which he can never find enough of.
"The problem that I have with them is no matter how many you buy, I never have enough," Corder said. ...
"Anyone can own a boat. If you've got deep enough pockets, and you want, you can go buy a boat. But you are the coolest kid on the block if you've got a pirate ship," Corder joked.
You gotta admit...the pirates always do look pretty cool.
Just remember: If you have to take out a loan to buy this thing... make sure you get a low A-P-aRrrrrrr!
