An Australian man has technically earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for completing 3,206 push-ups in one hour, despite his...let's just say..."somewhat questionable" technique.
Lucas Helmke, a 33-year-old father from Brisbane, managed to break the previous record held by fellow Aussie, Daniel Scali, who completed 3,182 push-ups in April 2022. Interestingly, the record before Scali was held by another Australian, Jarrad Young, who delivered 3,054 push-ups in 2021.
True, Helmke's feat might sound impressive, but there's a catch: his push-up technique has raised some eyebrows. While he did manage to pull off 53 push-ups per minute, the form he used has left some people questioning whether he really deserves to be the record holder.
What do you all think? How many "real" push-ups do you see in this video? I counted zero, but let me watch it again real quick...
Just so we are all on the same page, most push-up competitions require the following to be true:
From the starting point a (competitor) must lower their body to the ground until the upper arm is at least parallel to the floor (elbow bent at a 90 degree angle or less) before pushing back up to the starting point.
Forgive me, but I just don't see the 90 degree bend in this video. Not on one of these pushups. What do you all think?
