Let's check in to see how free speech is going in what used to be a once-free Europe:
Yeah, so... not good.
From ADF International:
Päivi Räsänen was shocked to learn that she was accused of "hate speech" for publicly voicing her deeply held beliefs on marriage and human sexuality.
She now faces a daunting trial on 24 January for having published a pamphlet on marriage in 2004, for taking part in a discussion on a radio show in 2019, and for tweeting a picture of a bible passage.
Räsänen served for over two decades as a member of parliament, including as Minister of the Interior, and is also a medical doctor.
Even more insane, her bishop is going on trial as well for publishing that 2004 pamphlet she created to defend the biblical definition of marriage.
Apparently, believing that there is a God in heaven who has created and ordered the world and instructs us in how to live according to that order is wrong.
If only these savage Christians – what with their belief in loving, committed marriages that produce children and thriving societies – hadn't radicalized the peace-loving, enlightened pagans!
This is the insulting verse that Räsänen posted:
That's Romans 1:24-27. In English:
Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
Uh oh. I just realized that by posting this, I probably shouldn't visit Finland if I don't want to be jailed by their progressive utopia.
The passage of Romans 1 is the Apostle Paul's preface to an argument for the hope of salvation found only in Jesus Christ – a letter that the most prestigious schools used to teach as the prime example of argumentation.
In the first chapter of this letter to the Christians in Rome, Paul discusses the total depravity of mankind and the inevitable results that come when people forget God and live only for themselves.
In addition to creating things that we worship (sports, entertainment, politics, fashion, food, climate change, and masks, anyone), Paul argues that we worship ourselves and the perversions that live within us.
The most prevalent of these perversions is the twisting of our sexuality away from its good and natural design, leading to grotesque desires that span the colors of the rainbow.
But none of this singularly singles out the LGBT community, since Paul's argument in Chapter 2 is that even those who follow God's law are under condemnation for their sin, including hypocritical judgement and their haughty belief that God shows favoritism.
Doesn't matter to the Finnish government. If you believe in keeping Almighty God's designs sacred out of reverence and a desire for stable homes and flourishing communities, you're a terrorist!
Here's the name of the pamphlet she wrote, by the way:
"Male and female He created them - Homosexual relationships challenge the Christian concept of humanity"
Hoo boy. A Christian believing more Christian things. Dangerous.
Here's what Räsänen said upon being charged last year:
"The decision of the Prosecutor General is surprising, even shocking," Räsänen said. "The question is about the Bible's teaching about marriage and sexuality. Ultimately, the three charges brought against me have to do with whether it is allowed in Finland to express your conviction that is based on the traditional teaching of the Bible and Christian churches. The Bible's teaching is, however, (that) marriage is a union between man and wife and that practicing homosexuality is against God's will."
Again, dangerous stuff that.
Just think of what society would be with such strong moral fabric and fear of God.
I'll leave you with a video that ADF International published to give you more info about Räsänen, along with a link to donate to her defense fund. Pray for free speech and religious freedom in Finland!
