Why churches are leaving the United Methodist Church, Exhibit 666:
Yeah... I think Allendale United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida, has officially lost the plot.
The church apparently decided that it was their mission to oppose Ron DeSantis's ban on drag shows for kids in Florida by having a drag Sunday service at their church this week.
From the Daily Caller:
"Drag, as an art form, is a grand celebration of human creativity and diversity. It embodies the qualities of love, grace, and acceptance that we, as a community, are striving to manifest," an AUMC program reads. "It's an unapologetic proclamation that everyone is deserving of love and a place in this world. This display of resilience and courage is an expression of our commitment to honor the sacred worth of all people โ regardless of race, sexuality, gender, or background."
Yeah ... if I go to a church and a drag queen gets up to start singing Imma let you know they'll be dragging me out of there because I'd let 'em know what I thought of it.
Currently, the DeSantis ban on drag performances is not being enforced as an appeals court has ruled against the ordinance. So, as things now stand, this is less an act of defiance by the church and more of a victory lap until and unless DeSantis wins the battle in court.
Methodists ... y'all gotta figure this thing out.
