Is this seriously how we resolve voter fraud in our country? Just ... do nothing to stop the illegal votes from counting?
Yep, here it is in the Detroit News. A Chinese student at the University of Michigan voted illegally in the election, but because the vote has been tabulated there's no way to find his ballot.
So they're just going to count the vote.
It's like the vote fraudsters just figured out the concept of asking forgiveness rather than permission.
The 19-year-old individual from China was legally present in the United States but not a citizen, which meant he couldn't legally cast a ballot, according to information from the Michigan Secretary of State's office. He registered to vote on Sunday, he signed a document identifying himself as a U.S. citizen and his ballot was entered into a tabulator, according to the Secretary of State's office.
Later, the UM student voter contacted the local clerk's office, asking if he could somehow get his ballot back, according to Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson's office.
The most insane part of this story, and what should really make you worried about Michigan, is that they only caught this because this student TURNED HIMSELF IN.
It's not like they were going to investigate this or anything. He appears to just be a confused student, or a regretful student, who tried to take his illegal vote back.
Which leads us to the OTHER crazy part. It's too late. They're going to count the ballot!
The student's ballot is expected to count in the upcoming election โ although it was illegally cast โ because there is no way for election officials to retrieve it once it's been put through a tabulator, according to two sources familiar with Michigan election laws. The setup is meant to prevent ballots from being tracked back to an individual voter.
If Trump loses the election by one vote in Michigan, everyone has the right to lose their minds over this.
And, again, how many people illegally voted and didn't turn themselves in? That's the better question.
But it's pats on the back all around for the folks up in Michigan.
'We're grateful for the swift action of the clerk in this case, who took the appropriate steps and referred the case to law enforcement,' said a joint statement from the offices of Benson and Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit. 'We are also grateful to law enforcement for swiftly and thoroughly investigating this case.
'Anyone who attempts to vote illegally faces significant consequences, including but not limited to arrest and prosecution.'
But they don't face a removal of their ballot.
The lesson here to fraudsters is simply to keep your mouth shut. And if you do get caught, oh well.
I mean ... it doesn't give you a warm fuzzy feeling, does it?
