Minnesota woman Kathleen Wilson has filed a lawsuit against her Eden Prarie dentist for performing 32 procedures in one visit: 4 root canals, 8 crowns, and 20 fillings.

Did she need that many procedures?

Apparently, the answer to that is "yes."

In an affidavit, Dr. Avrum Goldstein, a dentist who serves on the faculty at a Florida university who reviewed Wilson's charts, said that virtually every tooth in her mouth showed signs of decay.

But did she need all 32 procedures at once?

Goldstein says,

"Katie required a slow, thoughtful, careful and measured response to her disease. Trying to fill every hole in every tooth in her mouth in one visit is not only the antithesis of what was indicated, it is not humanely possible to achieve in an effective or constructive manner," Goldstein said, adding that it's "inconceivable" to address 28 teeth in 5 1⁄2 hours.

That's roughly 12 minutes per tooth.

Those are some fast root canals, not to mention everything else.

Goldstein also noted in his report the amount of anesthesia the Minnesota dentist used on Wilson was "grossly exceeding what would be considered safe."

"One challenge of a long appointment is maintaining adequate anesthesia," Goldstein said. "The maximum dosage is 490 mg. Molldrem administered 960 mg to Wilson."

According to the lawsuit, Wilson claims that the massive number of treatments done so quickly left her disfigured, and she has spent months at the University of Minnesota Dental School,

for repair and replacement of many of her restorations in an attempt to stabilize her mouth.

In addition to medical costs, Wilson is suing for $50,000 in damages.

$50,000?

That's such a practical Minnesota number for what could reportedly be a lifetime dental issue. If this happened in Texas, the number would be 10 times that, easily.

And there would almost certainly be a giant carnivorous plant involved.
