A new $30 gadget will jiggle your computer mouse to make your employer think you're working and don't tell the NTB editors but I'm using one right now

Throughout human history there have been great leaps forward in technology that have changed the course of civilization. Fire. The wheel. The printing press. The steam engine.

And now...this:

Employers are monitoring productivity more than ever, in part thanks to the boom in remote work.

Employees are turning to gadgets to outsmart monitoring software. One such tool is a mouse mover, or mouse jiggler, that's supposed to keep your screen on...

That's pretty much all there is to it. Once your mouse is on the jiggler you can get up, make lunch, do whatever you need, and your computer won't go to sleep.

It won't make you more productive, of course, but it may trick some surveillance software into thinking you're still working, at least if that software is checking to see if your computer is active.

Now, don't tell my editors here, but I'm gonna let you in on a little secret: I use one of these bad boys all the time to make it look like I'm doing stuff. Easiest thing in the world: I just load that sucker up, strap on my shoes, and go out and do life.

So what do I do while that mouse thing is running? Well, I'll tell you: I've been getting into skee-ball recently. I know, I know, it's pretty retro. But you know what? It's great! It requires a decent bit of skill and it's just a nice way to spend an hour or two.

Okay, that's enough work for today. Back on goes the jiggler. Have a nice afternoon folks! Please don't tell on me!
