Everyone's reaction to this news:
HBO is close to a deal for a Harry Potter TV series based on the best-selling young adult books for both cable and streaming, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
The Harry Potter books have been cultural touchstones for nearly 30 years. They've made eight movies out of them. Plus three spinoff movies. And a theme park. And a ton of video games. And a ton of merch. Just endless content from this series for nearly three decades.
So do we need another Harry Potter series?
Do we? Do we really?
The series would allow the writers to delve further into the world of Rowling's books, many of which are longer than 500 pages. Warner Bros., part of the same media giant as HBO, previously turned each of the seven books into a hit movie, culminating in a two-part movie based on the final installment.
Even if you'd like something like this, ask yourself: Would you trust HBO to be faithful to the books, or are we going to get woke Harry Potter?
We all know the answer to that.
Voldemort would be a right-wing archvillain, Harry Potter would learn the magical ways of wokeness, and there'd be so much "diversity" and "inclusion" [read: Marxism] that your head would spin.
They'd rewrite the entire thing to be the opposite of what J.K. Rowling intended, maybe just to destroy her since she's not woke enough now!
The author will be involved in the series to ensure it remains loyal to her original material but will not run the show day to day or serve as its primary creator, the person said. She has at times generated controversy with remarks viewed by some as trans-phobic.
