The Dog Advisory Council conducted a study on America's best and worst dog-owning cities.
Metrics included dogs running loose off their leashes, barking complaints, and of course how much dog poop doesn't get picked up.
The top five worst dog-owning cities overall are
- Pittsburgh, PA
- Newark, NJ
- Seattle, WA
- Cleveland, OH
- Washington DC
When just dog poop on the streets is considered, Seattle and San Francisco top that list.
Oddly enough, they also top the list of human poop on the streets.
The top five dog-owning cities were
- Tuscon, AZ
- Virginia Beach, VA
- Raleigh, NC
- Omaha, NE
- San Antonio, TX
I know this next bit will be hard to believe, but the top 25 best cities for dogs had more than three times the number of conservative mayors than the 25 worst cities for dog ownership.
Considering most of the study's criteria would be met if pet laws were enforced--like fining pet owners for not cleaning up their pets' mess--it only makes sense that cities with mayors willing to enforce laws would do well.
