Earlier this year, Mid Vermont Christian School Eagles voluntarily forfeited their girls' basketball playoff game in protest against their opponents who were allowing a male to compete on their girls' team.

Unsurprisingly, the raging ideologues who make these decisions decided to punish the school for its transgression:

A Vermont Christian school that forfeited a game in the girls state basketball playoffs because its opponent had a transgender student on the team's roster will be prohibited from participating in future tournaments, the sports governing association in the state said Monday.

The school, to its tremendous credit, is not taking this lying down:

[Mid Vermont] is suing state officials after they were banned from all athletic and academic events for refusing to allow their girls basketball team to compete against a transgender player, Fox News reported. ...

The Christian PK-12 school says they were "irreparably harmed by being denied participation" and "losing out on playing competitive sports as well as academic competitions," their lawsuit, filed by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), reads.

Just as an aside, every time ADF files a lawsuit like this, it feels like the cavalry riding in to save everyone at the last moment. It's great.

ADF does good work. And this is most assuredly good work. It's clinically insane to allow a boy to play against girls in this context. It makes no sense at every level. The school should absolutely not be compelled to do so and it should not suffer penalties for refusing to do so.

"The State is entitled to its own views, but it is not entitled, nor is it constitutional, to force private, religious schools across the state to follow that orthodoxy as a condition to participating in Vermont's tuitioning program and the State's athletic association," the lawsuit reads.

You never quite know how these things are going to play out, but my money is on the school and ADF notching a win on this one. We'll keep a close eye on it.
