A former Alabama prison guard was arrested and faces a litany of charges, regarding promoting contraband in a state prison. The contraband in question?

Hamburgers.

Limestone Correctional Facility officer Jason Chambers and his wife Sophia Chambers turned themselves in to the Limestone County Sherriff's Office after the Alabama Department of Corrections issued warrants for their arrests for smuggling and selling illicit hamburgers at the correctional facility over a five-month period.

The complaint on the warrant read:

"[ADOC] Agt. Ken Pierce has probable cause for believing ... James Wesley Chambers ... intentionally and unlawfully makes, obtains or possesses any contraband, to wit: hamburgers,"

Court records show that Jason chambers faces six counts for promoting prison contraband, seven counts of using his office for personal gain, and one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. His wife is charged with four counts of bribing a public servant, one count of promoting prison contraband, and one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

In addition to the hamburgers, the complaint says the couple smuggled in a smart watch and a National Geographic magazine.

However, the hamburgers are the basis of most of the charges leveled against the couple.

The couple were booked and released on a $5,000 bond.

I guess, they were selling the burgers to bring home some extra bacon. They never thought the long arm of the law would ketchup to them.

Sorry.

The only thing that would make this story better is if someone were to raise a ruckus at the trial, so the judge has to say, "order in the court."
