Oh, how I tire of this! Goodyear does its part to make sure 2020 is not a good year

An employee at Goodyear shared a new company policy that is currently circulating like wildfire on social media. According to the WIBM news article, a slide that was presented during a company diversity training course showed what is acceptable and not acceptable as part of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company's zero-tolerance policy. A purported photo of the slide is shown below:

"If someone wants to wear a BLM shirt in here, then cool. I'm not going to get offended about it. But at the same time, if someone's not going to be able to wear something that is politically based, even in the farthest stretch of the imagination, that's discriminatory," said the employee under the agreement of anonymity due to fears they could lose their job. "If we're talking about equality, then it needs to be equality. If not, it's discrimination."

Listed as acceptable: Black Lives Matter (BLM), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride.

Listed as unacceptable: Blue Lives Matter, All Lives Matter, MAGA Attire, Political Affiliated Slogans or Material.

If anyone here is confused about what discrimination means or how it might relate to this particular chart, here's a refresher:

Discrimination:

  • The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.

It's a common policy at most companies to avoid discussing politics, race, religion, etc. in the workplace. I would like to meet the HR employee that determined to, well…not do that. It is unclear at the time of writing whether being straight or voting Republican while employed by Goodyear is acceptable under current company policies.

With all the hoopla, even President Trump weighed in on the matter, calling for a boycott of all Goodyear products:

The thing that Trump maybe didn't realize is that his very own presidential transport, "The Beast," uses some of the biggest, most awesome Goodyears in the world.

Eh, whatever. I'm sure it's fine.
