An enormous bridge linking Europe and Asia is set to open this week and it's simply an absolute miracle of modern engineering

This Friday, March 18, the Çanakkale 1915 Bridge will officially open for business. The more-than-mile-long suspension bridge is officially the largest in the world; it spans over 6,600 feet across the Dardanelles strait separating Europe and Asia.

And man...you've never seen anything like it:

Viewed from a distance the thing is just breathtaking:

The span's 1.2-mile length is part of the 200-mile long Kınalı-Balıkesir Motorway, billed as "the first motorway in Turkey to connect Europe and Asia, outside of Istanbul."

Here's a great promo video featuring, as best we can tell, a fellow who used to have to deliver tomatoes via a slow, unreliable ferry and who can now truck his wares directly across this behemoth bridge.

I'm probably never gonna get over there to drive across this sucker but I wouldn't mind it if I did!
