Schools in Michigan City, Indiana, had to cancel classes earlier this week after it was discovered that some bozos sabotaged 21 school buses.

All the buses were hit overnight on Monday this week by someone who climbed under the buses and stole the catalytic converters.

From Newsweek:

Michigan City Area Schools (MCAS) in Indiana canceled in-person classes on Tuesday after staff discovered that someone stole crucial parts of 21 school buses, the school district told Newsweek in a statement Wednesday ...

At about 5:25 a.m. Tuesday, a Michigan City police officer was dispatched to the MCAS Transportation Department after an employee reported that 'during the overnight hours the Transportation Department property was unlawfully entered, and approximately 20 to 25 catalytic converters were stolen from school buses parked on the premises,' the Michigan City Police Department wrote on Facebook.

Catalytic converters contain rare minerals and are often worth a lot of money on the black market.

Marty Corley, Michigan City police chief, told WSBT: 'You know catalytic converters you can actually the material that they are made of, you can scrap those for a nice price. I hear anywhere from $500 to maybe $900 apiece. With these being from a heavy duty to your vehicle, it might be even a little bit more.'

The entire school system went to online learning on Tuesday, and as of Wednesday the middle school and high schools are still in virtual or hybrid mode, but elementary students have made it back to school.

Police are still on the lookout for these thieves who shut down an entire city.
