National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan received quite the surprise when he woke up to find a drunk intruder stumbling about in his home.
I suppose that would be a surprise for any of us, but when there's a deployment of secret service agents outside protecting your house, it would be an even bigger surprise.
Sullivan confronted the man, who seemed to have entered the home by mistake, and no one was harmed during the incident.
But how did the drunk guy get passed these highly trained officers?
The Secret Service agents and their supervisor all had their faces glued to their private phones instead of watching Sullivan's house.
I mean sure, binging Netflix is probably more interesting than watching a dark house all night, but you're the Secret Service for crying out loud. You're in charge of protecting the people that keep our nation running.
Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has indicated that there will be stricter disciplinary actions for agents caught on their phones while on duty, up to and including losing their security clearance, which would effectively mean losing their job and any hope of future government-related work.
But that seems like overkill. What if…and I'm just spitballing here…what if they just didn't let the Secret Service carry their personal phones with them while on duty?
