Harris, a 10 year old otter from Cornwall, UK, has found love again after his team at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary made a dating profile for him. Harris lost his partner Apricot earlier in the year and was alone for the first time in 4 years.
Tamara Cooper, the curator at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary spoke highly of Harris, saying:
"There was something about Harris that checked all the boxes for Apricot. He was a doting partner to Apricot, so when she passed away a few weeks back he was absolutely lost."
Otters naturally live in pairs and the team thought Harris was such a good partner, he deserved another shot at love. They put together a dating profile for Harris called "Fishing for Love" in hopes of finding Harris another partner for life. "I am very attentive, I love a cuddle, and I am a very good listener," the profile said. "I will love you like no otter."
He was quickly matched with Pumpkin, an otter at Sea Life Scarborough sanctuary, who recently lost her partner named Eric. Otter experts say that the best chance of a successful new pairing is to introduce a new male into the female's territory, so Harris is setting off to live with Pumpkin at her seal sanctuary.
Todd German, the Sea Life Scarborough display curator was sad to see Pumpkin so lonely after the loss of her last partner, saying:
"Pumpkin has been extremely lonely so we are delighted that Harris will be coming to join her, we hope his arrival will provide Pumpkin with comfort and companionship."
The Cornish seal sanctuary was sad to see Harris go, but will be keeping in touch to see how he and Pumpkin get on.
Here's to wishing that this love pairing is a slam dunk.
