Arizona charter school board approves curriculum entirely taught by A.I.

The chimera of replacing all human employees with AI to save money keeps getting more and more ridiculous.

Now, the charter school board of Arizona has approved an application from Unbound Academy to replace all academic learning in the system's schools with two-hours (and only two hours) of AI-led learning.

Under the 2hr Learning model, students spend just two hours a day using personalized learning programs from companies like IXL and Khan Academy. 'As students work through lessons on subjects like math, reading, and science, the AI system will analyze their responses, time spent on tasks, and even emotional cues to optimize the difficulty and presentation of content,' according to Unbound's charter school application in Arizona. 'This ensures that each student is consistently challenged at their optimal level, preventing boredom or frustration.'

Imagine a history lesson taught by the figures being studied:

The other six hours of the school day include learning life skills like public speaking, overcoming rejection, grit and robotics with "guides" instead of teachers.

Unbound already operates a similar setup in Texas, and they claim that their students learn twice as much as students in public schools.

Needless to say, there are some questions regarding the truth of these claims.

Tennessee teacher Tiffany Dunn said,

This whole thing is coming from the tech industry, which doesn't understand that what kids need is someone to love them and get excited about them. I'm not aware of any research that says sticking a child in front of a computer for hours on end does them any good.

Tuition at the Texas schools is a whopping $40,000 per year, despite the funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

In my opinion, there is one "benefit" of using AI to teach kids: Thanks to all the hallucinations and made-up information AI is notorious for, we'll have even more funny-but-sad videos like these in the future:
