Squatters take over home, sell it for $200,000 without owner's knowledge

A grim warning to anyone who leaves their home unattended, even briefly. This could happen to you if you're not careful.

[S]quatters took over [D'Andrea Turner's] Phoenix home and sold it without her knowledge.

'It feels so surreal,' Turner shared in an interview with ABC 15 Arizona. 'I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. Really, I didn't even think something like this could happen.'

But it did. After Turner's ex-husband, Keith — a long-haul trucker — left the house unattended for a period of time, two strangers, Aaron Polmanteer and Lledera Hollen, forced their way in.

Now, you might be picturing these two creepers taking over some multimillion-dollar mansion. I mean, if you're going to do this, you might as well go big, right?

Wrong. This was just...a normal home.

Taking a tour of the house you just broke into like:

These were the crooks who sought to close the dishonest deal:

I guess it's easier to sell an 1,110 square foot rancher than it is a McMansion. Anyway, that's just what these scummers did — and they almost pulled it off!

With fraudulent paperwork in hand, Polmanteer and Hollen successfully listed and sold the home to real estate investors for $200,000 — all without the Turners knowing.

They might have gotten away with it too, but they ran into trouble when they tried to cash checks written out in the Turners' names.

Banks tend to look at that sort of thing closely!

Thankfully the home is "back in the right hands." Turner, however, had the right question after the whole thing was over:

How does this happen? At what point did someone not do their job?

Hey, a sale's a sale, lady!
