Federal District Judge David A. Ezra ordered the removal of the border buoys on Wednesday that Governor Abbott had deployed in the Rio Grande River to discourage illegal crossings.
The buoys were deployed in June, and they worked. Illegal crossings plummeted that month.
As a Texas resident living on the Rio Grande, I can say it has been a nice reprieve. I didn't even care that the Biden administration took credit for the slowdown.
Of course, by July, the crossings had moved to Arizona and spiked back up again, but Arizona shifted Democrat. This is what they voted for, so that's on them.
However, the Biden administration would really like to shift the crossings back to Texas instead of Arizona, so the weaponized DOJ has been fighting in court to get the buoys removed.
Governor Abbott has vowed to appeal the decision all the way to the Supreme Court if he has to.
He said,
Today's court decision merely prolongs President Biden's willful refusal to acknowledge that Texas is rightfully stepping up to do the job that he should have been doing all along.
We will continue to utilize every strategy to secure the border, including deploying Texas National Guard soldiers and Department of Public Safety troopers and installing strategic barriers.
The judge said the barriers must be removed because they were constructed on navigable waters without a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Abbott has until Sept 15 to remove the barriers under the order.
