"Critterpedia", an app that allows users to take photos of spiders or snakes on their phone in order to identify the species, is rolling out in Australia. The "Shazam of spiders and snakes" is hoping to provide education and awareness for Australians and help out with wildlife safety, ultimately saving lives.
You can currently sign up to become a Phase 1 tester, which lets you download a beta version of the platform and submit wildlife photos to keep training the algorithm.
While this seems to be a wonderful tool, its mere existence confirms that I have no business traveling to Australia. I do not want to be close enough to need to identify this:
