Australian breakdancer breaks silence on Olympics performance: "I did take it very seriously, I worked my butt off"

Australian Olympic breakdancer Rachael "Raygunn" Gunn has been this month's #1 viral sensation, and if you don't know why, then all I can do is show you this:

She was mocked into oblivion for this, my favorite parody being this one right here:

And now she's broken her silence (no not with a dance, thankfully).

Watch:

I just want to start by thanking all the people who have supported me. I really appreciate the positivity, and I'm glad I was able to bring some joy into your lives.

Oh, you've brought us all much joy, lady. Much joy.

🤣🤣🤣

I didn't realize that that would also open the door to so much hate, which has frankly been pretty devastating. While I went out there and I had fun, I did take it very seriously. I worked my butt off preparing for the Olympics, and I gave my all, truly. I'm honored to have been a part of the Australian Olympic team, and to be part of breaking's Olympic debut. What the other athletes have achieved has just been phenomenal.

Raygunn even asks for us to stop mocking her, which was already naturally starting to happen, as internet memes are only hot for so long.

I'd really like to ask the press to please stop harassing my family, my friends, the Australian breaking community and the broader street dance community. Everyone has been through a lot as a result of this, so I ask you to please respect their privacy.

Congratulations, lady, you just bought yourself another two weeks of being mocked on the internet. Had you not broken your silence, everyone would've mostly forgotten about you by the weekend.

Turns out, your PR game is about as good as your breakdancing.

But what do you expect from a professor of dance and gender politics at Macquarie University who wrote her thesis on "deterritorializing gender in Sydney's breakdancing scene"??

💀
