I dunno who needs to hear this, but in order for a civilization to continue to exist, married couples need to be able to buy homes in their early 20s.
The National Association of Realtors recently released a November report with surveys from June 2024 to July 2025. According to that report, the national median age for homebuyers is now 59 (!!) years old. When you separate out first-time buyers from repeat buyers, you get 40 years and 62 years, respectively.
However, you'll notice that the overall median (59) is much closer to repeat buyers' median age of 62. That's because first-time home purchases have also hit a record low (21%) as younger generations cannot afford to buy homes.
Housing has become a premium asset, but housing is an essential human need - particularly for women looking to have children during their prime childbearing years (pregnancies past the age of 35 are "geriatric" because it is past the biological prime for having kids).
Thank goodness President Trump wants ... 50-year mortgages?
While many people in the comments noted the influence that illegal migration and foreign H-1B hires have on the American housing market, one statistic Americans are not readily discussing is the impact abortion has had on national demographics.
Almost one-third of Gen Z does not exist because they were aborted in the womb.
Between 1973 and 2020, 65 million Americans were aborted.
As a result, our civilizational pipeline has an increase of babies born between 1945 and 1965 that are now hitting the end of their lives, but fewer and fewer young people to carry the burden.
The way this influences politics and policy can be seen in the increasing age of lawmakers on Capitol Hill, who represent the interests of this bloc of older Americans. This has effects on all of society.
As this gentleman articulated through Francisco Goya's famous painting "Saturn Devouring his Son":
And yet, the inevitable march of time demands that the younger generations eventually win.
The problem is whether they will be willing to wait, or if they will throw the baby (the nation and Constitution) out with the bathwater (high prices) for the chance to build something - anything - before they are 59 years old.
The largest example of this mentality can be seen in the election of an open Marxist who intends to implement socialism as New York City's mayor. Younger generations are less concerned about the dangers of socialism (Mamdani wants to abolish private property!) than they are with not being able to invest, build, or buy anything before they are old and gray.
When Mamdani meets with the 79-year-old president at the White House, will it be more of a metaphor for communism vs. free trade ... or the old versus the young?
