Shortly after taking off from Dakar, Senegal, Brussels Airlines crewmembers were notified that a passenger on board named Ndeye, was pregnant and experiencing severe pain.

Flight attendant Jennifer Joie, a mother herself, quickly realized that this was not just a stomach ache. After notifying the pilots of the situation, they decided to turn the plane around, but the baby had made up her mind that she was ready to come out and to come out in a hurry.

The mom's water broke just a few minutes after notifying the flight attendant. Joie, along with a recently graduated nurse and a doctor who was on the flight assisted the mom in delivering a healthy baby girl named Fanta.

Everyone on board the plane was relieved to hear the sound of the baby girl's first cry.

Flight attendant Joie said of the experience,

As a cabin crew member, you train for everything, even childbirth — but nothing prepares you for the real thing. But we stayed calm, worked as a team, and followed our procedures. It was magical. If I hadn't become a cabin crew member, I think I would have been a midwife.

What a blessing for Ndeye and Fanta to have Joie as their flight attendant.

When the plane arrived back in Dakar shortly after Fanta's birth, Jennifer Joie held the baby during landing - an experience she won't soon forget!
