The Biden administration is authorizing the completion of parts of the U.S.-Mexico border wall in order to close some of the gaps that had not yet been filled during President Trump's administration.
The agency said in a statement that Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas authorized completion of the project near the Morelos Dam, reflecting the administration's "priority to deploy modern, effective border measures and also improving safety and security along the Southwest Border." It was initially to be funded by the Defense Department but will now be paid for out of Homeland Security's 2021 budget.
The Morelos Dam in Yuma, Arizona is the third-busiest sector of illegal crossing into the United States along the southern border.
The Department of Homeland Security will oversee the work and says that completing the project will better protect migrants who might slip and fall in the Colorado River crossing at that point (a lot of migrants are dying every day due to the cartels or the elements).
Remember how, when Biden took over the White House, he vowed to end all construction on his predecessor's southern border wall?
It wasn't long before he broke that commitment.
Now, he's building even more border wall. Two points of pressure may have pushed the Biden administration in its current border wall construction project.
- Democratic Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona is up for reelection this year and has been begging President Biden to do something about the border crisis, so he doesn't lose his seat.
- The Republican governors of both Texas (Greg Abbott) and Arizona (Doug Ducey) have begun rounding up illegal immigrants, putting them on buses, and shipping them to Washington DC.
Democrat D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has been complaining about the overload of immigrants coming to her city and taking resources meant for citizens.
She has even recently gone so far as to call for the National Guard to be deployed to protect the city.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott responded with this:
Abbott spokeswoman Renae Eze told the Washington Examiner that the nation's capital is finally starting to experience a fraction of what's happening on the border.
Washington, D.C. finally understands what Texans have been dealing with every single day, as our communities are overrun and overwhelmed by thousands of illegal immigrants thanks to President Biden's open border policies.
The governors' tactics seem to be working.
Keep up the good work, fellas!
