Donald Trump had a very brief meeting with Joe Biden at the White House on Wednesday morning.
People noted the body language at play in the handshake.
Trump is known for his dominating handshakes (he often tugs the other person slightly closer to him). In this case, interestingly, Trump remains assertive and dominant, but you can see him lean toward Biden in a respectful "bow" (though his spine stays straight).
Biden, meanwhile, stayed stiff and yet looked a bit hunched over. I'm not sure if that's because he was trying to maintain dominance or because his spine no longer flexes and he's lost muscle mass 😭
I also find it interesting that Trump held sustained eye contact, while Biden looked away (that shows you who feels the most comfortable and the most in charge).
I'm still slightly confused. After all, Biden repeatedly said Trump was an existential threat to the "soul of the nation." But now that Trump has won, he's fine with shaking his hand and congratulating him?
There really wasn't much more than that to the short meeting, but I absolutely loved the way the two presidents shared a chuckle at the expense of the media circus show:
