Remember how Trump was called a dictatorial enemy of the free press time and time again?
If you don't, here's two headlines from The Daily Beast to remind you of the victimhood complex the media had for approximately 101.3% of Trump's presidency:
- "Trump's War on the Press Follows the Mussolini and Hitler Playbook"
- "Trump Says ‘Press' Is ‘Truly the Enemy of the People'"
Of course, anyone who actually watched one of the White House press briefings under Trump could see and hear the loaded questions and rhetorical vitriol in many of the questions.
But now that our Normal-Guy Savior Joe Biden has been elected, we should be cheering the return of a press that will speak truth to power.
It turns out, unless you're talking about how normal it is that Joe likes chocolate chip ice cream or how cute his German Shepherds are, he wants to know your questions first.
After all, we wouldn't want anything untoward to come out about how uNiFyiNg and nOrMaL our POTUS is, would we??
Ironically, it was The Daily Beast that reported that Biden's team is contacting the media to see what questions they will ask in advance:
"If you're a reporter with a tough question for the White House press secretary, Joe Biden's staff wouldn't mind knowing about it in advance.
According to three sources with knowledge of the matter, as well as written communications reviewed by The Daily Beast, the new president's communications staff have already on occasion probed reporters to see what questions they plan on asking new White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki when called upon during briefings."
The Daily Beast noted that this "prompted concerns among the White House press corps."
One anonymous reporter had this to say on the matter:
"While it's a relief to see briefings return, particularly with a commitment to factual information, the press can't really do its job in the briefing room if the White House is picking and choosing the questions they want. That's not really a free press at all."
Note how the reporter offers glowing review of Biden's "commitment to factual information" while admitting what's being created is "not really a free press at all."
The Daily Beast then goes on a long tirade explaining why this might be the end of a free press that has the ability to hold leaders accountable, but that a former Obama staffer assured them it's just a return to "normalcy."
The Daily Beast also made sure to bend the knee to Biden in its last paragraph, offering objective admissions of adoration for our Supreme Leader and his comms staff.
With terms like "reality-grounded" and "a breath of fresh air," who minds if the press could be becoming the puppet of the Democratic Party?
For those of us weirdos who still have concerns, I'm sure Jen Psaki will circle back to us soon enough.
