They say curiosity killed the cat ...
But thankfully this cat's owners had the wherewithal to call the bomb squad before it got to that point.
A family in Dayton, Ohio, was doing some renovations on their basement when they saw that their cat had knocked something over and was playing with a mysterious item that looked suspiciously like a hand grenade.
In fact, it was a grenade, so the homeowners immediately called the police, who responded to the incident and were able to safely remove it, and now plan to detonate in a controlled environment.
The family does not know where the grenade came from or how it happened to end up in their basement, but this is a story that seems to be repeated with a bizarre level of frequency.
Just take a look at all of these examples from this year alone!
This cat sure is lucky the story ended as anticlimactic as it did, because I have no doubt that, given a few minutes alone with a grenade, any cat worth its salt could figure out how to detonate it.
