PRAISE THE LORD!
Gonna need a few minutes to wipe away the tears of joy, so check back for many updates.
Update 1: Here's a quote from the SCOTUS decision. Don't forget that someone leaked this a month ago to try to intimidate the justices.
Held: The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives.
"The authority is returned to the people."
Update 2: More from SCOTUS Blog 👇
The Supreme Court on Friday eliminated the constitutional right to obtain an abortion, casting aside 49 years of precedent that began with Roe v. Wade.
The decision by Justice Samuel Alito will set off a seismic shift in reproductive rights [read: the right to kill babies] across the United States. It will allow states to ban abortion, and experts expect about half the states to do so.
In one of the most anticipated rulings in decades, the court overturned Roe, which first declared a constitutional right to abortion in 1973, and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which re-affirmed that right in 1992. The decision followed the leak in early May of a draft opinion showing that a majority of the justices were privately poised to take that step. On Friday, they made it official.
The vote was 6-3. Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett joined Alito's opinion. Chief Justice John Roberts did not join the opinion but agreed with the result and filed a separate opinion. The court's three liberals, Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan, filed a joint dissent.
You may not like Trump, but this is the greatest victory of his presidency. Perhaps the greatest victory of any presidency in my lifetime.
History just happened. After 60 million dead American babies, the federal government can no longer mandate the legality of abortion.
Update 3: Pro-life laws that have been laid over decades are now going into effect. Missouri became the first state where abortion is 100% illegal within minutes of the Court's decision.
Here's a map showing the 13 states where abortion is set to become illegal under current laws that were designed exactly for this moment.
Update 4: Here was the reaction from the pro-life protesters outside the Supreme Court as the verdict was announced.
🚨 Update 5: Justice Clarence Thomas' concurring opinion has a line indicating that the Court should revisit cases related to marriage. (!!)
Griswold (1965) prevented local governments and states from restricting contraceptives. Lawrence (2003) ruled that local governments and states cannot have laws punishing sodomy, and by extension, other sexual behaviors. Obergefell ruled in 2012 that same-sex marriage is guaranteed as a right under the Constitution and is being used by other groups, such as trans activists, polyamorists, polygamists, and pedophiles, to expand the legal definition of marriage and sexual relationships further.
