A different day, a similar story from our friends across the pond.

From the Daily Mail:

She was outside a convenience store, waiting for her friend who had gone to buy goods inside, when she was set upon.

Geo Khan, 69, who runs a fruit a veg shop, tried to resuscitate the woman, who was one of his customers.

He said: 'I was working on Saturday and I heard screams and ran out of my shop.

'I saw that the lady was lying face down on the pavement next to a pushchair with her five-month-old baby inside.

'I turned her over. There was a lot of blood and I checked for a pulse, but couldn't find one.

'I could see the knife wounds to her neck and I tried to do CPR. Her friend was screaming.'

Mr Khan said a doctor who was passing in a car stopped to help. 'He picked up a pulse and I went to get a sheet to put over her until the ambulance came,' he added.

The murder took place outside the Westgate International Food store, at the junction of Westgate and Drewton Road, at 3:21pm yesterday.

The baby was reportedly okay after the incident (apart from no longer having a mother).

Masum is a Pakistani national on a 5-year student visa in the UK. The victim's name is Kulsuma Akter, according to the Metropolitan Police. She was also Pakistani. Although the motive for the attack is unknown, in Islamic Pakistan, honor killings are common. Known as "karo-kari," 470 were reported in 2021, with an unknown number going unreported (human rights groups estimate over 1,000 annually).

Adhi Aziz, 41, owner of Venice Barber Shop, said the woman was from Oldham, Greater Manchester, and had been 'tracked down' by her attacker, who is thought to be known to the victim.

The attack happened in Bradford, a city of more than 300,000 people west of Leeds.

On Monday afternoon, British police arrested a 23-year-old man who is suspected of assisting Masum in avoiding authorities. A spokesman for the police said they had conducted "a number of raids" in the Bradford area.

The UK continues to struggle with knife attacks, with over 50,000 offenses involving a "knife or sharp instrument" annually.

Knife crime has risen 34% over the last decade in England and Wales, including 281 homicides from March 2021 to March 2022. Murder by knife is the highest it has been since records began to be tracked in 1946.

In Scotland, knife crime also remains a prime concern for 52% of citizens, while a mass stabbing in Dublin last year led to violent anti-immigration riots in the streets.
