This law is already problematic as it is racist and gasphobic toward landscapers in California.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill on Saturday to ban gas-powered landscaping equipment by Jan. 1, 2024, to reduce global warming or global cooling or climate change or climate crisis or whatever they're calling it this week.
The law also demands that someone out there makes a gas-powered, zero-emission generator by 2028 because why not.
"It's amazing how people react when they learn how much this equipment pollutes, and how much smog-forming and climate-changing emissions that small off-road engine equipment creates," said Assemblyman Marc Berman (D), the author of the law.
"This is a pretty modest approach to trying to limit the massive amounts of pollution that this equipment emits, not to mention the health impact on the workers who are using it constantly,"
"Gov. Newsom signing (this law) really sets a strong course to not only his commitment to transitioning to zero emissions but also to cleaner air and healthier lungs," said Will Barrett.
Getting rid of the stupid CDC-ordained COVID-19 masks would actually have a better "health impact" toward "healthier lungs" than this law.
But I digress.
The Associated Press reports there are over 16.7 million small engines in California, which is 3 million MORE than passenger cars in the state.
California approved $30 million to "help" landscaping businesses transition to zero-emission equipment in its state budget earlier this year
"[S]tate officials say running a gas-powered leaf blower for one hour emits the same amount of pollution as driving a 2017 Toyota Camry from Los Angeles to Denver," AP reports.
This isn't all that surprising for California, though...
Just last year, Californian regulators ordered carmakers to sell more electric work trucks and vans. Newsom also issued a royal decree to ban all gas-powered cars and trucks in California by 2035.
It'll be sad to watch the remaining Californians a decade from now as their civilization has collapsed, using scythes to cut their grass before they walk two miles down to the river to get some muddy water to boil.
Don't say you're surprised when the house of cards falls: After all, they've been doing a great job of incentivizing people to leave the state for a while!
