Sena, the 10-month-old son of tech company boss Ivan Matkovic, suffered an "accidental fentanyl overdose" while crawling around at a San Francisco playground on Tuesday. The boy was reported in good health Wednesday.
Sena's nanny, Wendy Marroqui, found him struggling to breathe before she called 911.
"I shook him, and I'm like, something's wrong," Marroqui said. "I saw his face and he was dizzy. I thought he's not breathing."
Paramedics effectively administered the anti-opioid medication called Narcan to Sena.
"Really if it wasn't for [Marroqui] and her fast reactions, we might not be with our son today," Matkovic said.
Police told Matkovic his son's exposure was most likely through powder.
"It's not just dealers and people you don't know who are impacted by this, it's tipping over into the broader populace," Matkovic said.
"I'm frankly ignorant to the fentanyl problem. I'm just a dad that something bad happened to. I just wanted to let people know that along with coyotes and RSV and COVID, this is another thing to add to your checklist of things that you're looking out for, because we weren't."
