A school in Quebec has canceled Mother's and Father's Day and replaced it with "Parents' Day," which will be celebrated at the end of the year.
Teachers at La Chanterelle elementary school emailed out the following statement that will impact their 448 students:
Considering the heterogeneity of the families of our students this year, we have made the decision not to celebrate Mother's Day as well as Father's Day. On the other hand, we still want to highlight you by the end of the year. To do this, we will celebrate Parents' Day.
According to the school's spokesperson, Marie-Claude Lavoie, the school was unaware of the new initiative until after the email was sent. Apparently, the cancellation of the two loved holidays was the imagination of three second-grade teachers.
These three woke teachers went rogue and took matters into their own hands.
Ms. Lavoie came out and explained that the email was sent without her knowledge, but it was "well-intentioned."
As some students in their classes do not have a mother or father or are in foster care, they decided to mark Parents' Day instead by preparing a craft for them. Of course, this communication is well-intentioned but could have been misinterpreted. Note that the school administration was not aware of this action.
The backlash came once the internet got a whiff of the story.
Éric Duhaime, the leader of Quebec's Conservative Party, took to Twitter to challenge the Minister of Education in response to the message sent to parents.
Are you going to let the wokes abolish Mother's Day?
The Minister of Education, Bernard Drainville, later reacted on Twitter as well.
There was never any question of removing mothers or fathers from our schools. And there will never be any question of that either.
So what exactly happened here?
Just a few rogue wokies trying to take over an elementary school?
What's still not exactly clear is if the students at La Chanterelle will be allowed to celebrate their mothers this week.
I'd also like to know if those teachers are being reprimanded in any way, shape, or form.
History of the hypocritical movement to abolish Mother's Day: it started slowly several years ago. The case of the Chanterelle school is not unique. We will continue to denounce EVERY place that tries to abolish it. And we are going to celebrate this holiday.
