CBS gives a master class in how to write a garbage headline for the purpose of reinforcing a narrative

WOW you say when you see the headline in your Facebook timeline. Some cops murdered the half-brother of a black guy who was just found hanged! THIS IS INSANE!

And you aren't the only one. 86K likes and counting across Facebook:

HUGE STORY!

And thennnnn you click through and start to read the article. Which nobody does anymore. But you do. And you find out:

The half-brother of a black man found hanged in a Southern California park was killed by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies Wednesday after, they say, he opened fire on them.

And you Google it and read another source, NPRbage, with an equally grotesque headline, and they elaborate a bit more:

The suspect opened the front passenger door of the vehicle and engaged the Deputies by firing multiple rounds at them with a handgun.

"ThEy SaY," it says, of course. The disdain for cops is palpable.

So what really happened?

They pulled this dude over and he — with a woman and 7-year-old child in the car — hopped out and opened fire. So they shot him dead. That's the story. That should be the headline.
