Check out China's new all-terrain "RoboCops" that can detect crime in progress and trap crooks with nets

For years, when we've imagined what a robot cop would look like, I think we've all had roughly the same image in mind:

But China, of course, had other plans:

CHINA has unveiled unbreakable, spherical robo-cops which have been seen rolling around cities - ready to catch criminals. ...

The ball beast is able to operate both on land and in water, making it practically unstoppable.

It can also withstand a whopping four tonnes of impact damage to prevent criminals from trying to cover their tracks and kill it. ...

The RT-G can also be equipped with non-fatal police gear like net guns, tear gas sprayers, some grenades, loudspeakers and sound wave dispersal devices.

It's true: This thing really can fire nets at criminals. A promotional video demonstrates its netting capabilities:

I guess as long as this thing only encounters bat-wielding moron criminals, it'll be a great cop!

It can even run in water:

The bots are "capable of detecting disturbances or abnormalities around them," and can use facial recognition software to identify known criminals, after which it will either "call other robots or human law enforcement as a backup" or else "solve the issue itself."

Not sure I want to see this thing "call other robots."

Even for China, this is all pretty ... China!
