If you've got an affinity for rare vehicles and $500,000 to plunk down, get yourself over to the Netherlands in May and get a-biddin':
Car enthusiasts will be able to get their hands on a rare Lancia B24 Spider America next month when an impressive fleet of 230 classic cars discovered in warehouses and an abandoned church in Holland comes up for auction.
The hoard of classic vehicles, believed to be worth millions of euros, belonged to Dordrecht businessman Ad Palmen, 82, who started collecting the cars 40 years ago, according to auction organizers.
Forty years is a long time to collect cars. You can collect a lot over that time if you're a rich dude.
Palmen was an eccentric kind of collector. He didn't focus on single brands, as many car enthusiasts do; he just "bought everything he thought was beautiful."
And the cars he bought were, indeed, exceptionally beautiful:
Like many rich fellows, Palmen was apparently quite eccentric. He was reportedly "living in the warehouse and not in a luxurious way" at the time of his death, evidently in a small boxed-out office over his car collection:
Among the rarest cars in the lot, a Lancia B4 Spider, which given its good condition could sell for up to a million bucks at auction.
