Boys and girls, it DOES NOT pay to be a sports superfan. And if you think it does, and you go that route, you might end up like this guy.
Look at this dude:
Xaviar Michael Babudar, 30, who is well known for his online personality 'ChiefsAholic,' was sentenced to 210 months in prison without parole in Kansas City federal court Thursday morning, which amounts to 17½ years, according to federal court documents.
Following his sentence, Babudar will face three years of supervised release, according to the sentencing documents. The judge also ordered him to pay more than $500,000 in restitution …
Babudar was charged with 11 robberies or attempted robberies across seven states, during which he stole nearly $850,000.
He pleaded guilty to one count of money laundering and one count of transporting stolen property across state lines in February, and also to a count of bank robbery in a separate case out of Oklahoma, prosecutors said. He was also sentenced to 17 ½ years in the Oklahoma case and will serve both sentences concurrently.
In that Oklahoma case, he apparently jumped over the bank counter, put a gun in a woman's chest, and demanded "to be taken to the hundreds." He tried to get away on a bicycle, but got caught.
He also admitted to a string of nine bank and credit union robberies in 2022, and two more while he was a fugitive, prosecutors said.
Our guy was committing these crimes in order to fund his lifestyle as a Chiefs superfan. He needed money to travel the country and continue his charade as some sort of hero Chiefs diehard.
[H]is ‘robbery spree bankrolled the expensive tickets and travel across the country to attend Kansas City Chiefs games while he cultivated a large fan base online.'
As part of his punishment, this man must give away "any property involved in his money laundering activity." That means Chiefs jerseys, memorabilia, and apparently an autographed painting of Patrick Mahomes — though there's no takesies-backsies on all those tickets he purchased over the years.
See kids, when you're a superfan, you don't have time to get a real job, so what you do is, you become a criminal in order to make quick, easy money, and then you get arrested and thrown in prison for 17.5 years and have all your fan gear taken from you.
In essence, your dreams inevitably get crushed.
So do yourselves a favor, kids, get a real life when you get older. Don't be like ChiefsAholic.
Here's a whole ESPN documentary on this guy:
