They did it.
They actually did it.
I honestly never thought I'd see the day that CNN was forced to hold any of its anchors accountable (unless they were caught on a Zoom call), but here we are.
The star CNN anchor Chris Cuomo was suspended indefinitely by the network on Tuesday after new details emerged about his efforts to assist his brother, Andrew M. Cuomo, the former governor of New York, as he faced a cascade of sexual harassment accusations that led to the governor's resignation.
Chris Cuomo had previously apologized for advising Andrew Cuomo's senior political aides โ a breach of traditional barriers between journalists and lawmakers โ but thousands of pages of new evidence released on Monday by the New York attorney general, Letitia James, revealed that the anchor's role had been more intimate and involved than previously known.
"The documents, which we were not privy to before their public release, raise serious questions," CNN said in a statement on Tuesday.
Even CNN can't dodge "thousands of pages of evidence," though they may try!
Think about it.
Andrew and Chris Cuomo were the stars of the early days of Coronasanity. Andrew was governor of New York and respected on the world stage as the prime example for how to lead through a pandemic. Chris was one of a few elites who made up the face of mainstream media.
Now both of them have been kicked to the curb.
"When Chris admitted to us that he had offered advice to his brother's staff, he broke our rules and we acknowledged that publicly," the network said. "But we also appreciated the unique position he was in and understood his need to put family first and job second. However, these documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother's efforts than we previously knew."
"As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation," the network said.
Hmm...
"Pending further evaluation" kinda seems like it might mean "we'll bring him back once the storm clouds clear."
The more I think about it, the more I think I've seen this before:
Fellow anchor and resident potato-lover Brian Stelter sure did throw him under the bus fast though!
