Costco is rapidly selling out of gold bars. In other news, Costco apparently sells gold bars.

I'm not sure if this is merely interesting or if it's a really alarming sign of some sort of impending financial implosion, collapse of the fiat system, and long-overdue-yet-incredibly-painful return to the gold standard.

Maybe it's all of them:

[Costco] is your one-stop shop for 1 ounce gold PAMP Suisse Lady Fortuna Veriscan bars, handsomely detailed and ready for purchase.

They're available for the bargain price of … well, you have to be a member to know that, but apparently they were selling for a little shy of $1,900 recently, according to chatter on Reddit. Spot gold most recently was going for $1,876.56 an ounce as of Wednesday afternoon.

Just think: Now you can pick up your weekly gold supply and get one of those sweet, dope, ultra-cheap hotdogs while you're at it. This is gonna save us a lot of time.

Okay well, actually, not exactly: They're only available online (the gold bars, not the hotdogs). Still, it's worth pointing out these gold bars really are beauties:

One industry analysis noted that this is a clear effort to appeal to a significant slice of Costco's base:

There is definitely a crossover of people living off the land, being self-sufficient, believing in your own currency.

And like everything else, you can now get your own currency at Costco.
