A historic church in the Canary Islands was engulfed by a wall of lava on Sunday as the ongoing eruption on the island of La Palma continues to wreak havoc on local communities.
Watch:
The Church of St. Pious X was built shortly after the former pope was canonized in 1954.
The volcano has been erupting for over a week now, and some scientists warn the eruption could continue for up to three months.
At least the decorations and furniture of the church was evacuated in the last week. Locals tried to put up some barriers (made of wood??) in the last week, but unsurprisingly it failed to stop a WALL OF LAVA.
Pray for the people of La Palma!
